Small OpenGL/Speed issue

Well, I got to working the other night, and managed to implement touching. The OpenGL square follows wherever the finger touches (pretty simple). The only problem is it seems to be skipping (or lagging, whichever you prefer) behind the mouse. I'm thinking that it may be the update rate (possibly having to do with the animation implemented at the start?), but I'm most likely wrong.

On a side note, who recommends using Quartz? I'll definitely be making mostly 2D games. I'm just looking for the best way to go about things. Thanks

If you're concerned about speed, don't use Quartz for 2D games.

Since when was "Fred" a placeholder variable?

Then that's a big help, because I'm already pretty familiar with OpenGL. I'm just concerned about why there'd be that slight update delay.
