How games are scored:
The judges will assign 1-10 to each game, in the following categories:
  • This game was unique.
  • I enjoyed playing this game.
  • This game was presented professionally.

A score of 10 represents strong agreement with the statement, while a score of 1 conveys strong disagreement. These three scores are then added together to determine the game's overall score. The games with the three highest overall scores win.

FAQ
Does the Contest have a theme?
No. However, the "U" in 3DU means unique. The judges will reward entries which distinguish themselves.

What do you mean by 3D?
Entrants must try and emulate what are considered "modern" 3D games. You should use 3D models and move objects around in 3D space. Billboards/Imposters are allowed, so long as the end result feels 3D and not 2D. Even games which are inherently 2D (such as Chess) can qualify if the game is rendered in 3D and feels 3D. Judges will be the final determinant of whether a game is 3D or not. If you are unsure whether your entry is 3D or not, post to our forum with screenshots or a description.

Is the use of Unity required?
No. However, iDevGames and the sponsor of the Contest, Over The Edge Entertainment, have teamed together to provide a unique opportunity; so go ahead and give (Unity) a try. You might be pleasantly surprised!

What development tools are allowed?
There are no limits to tools, SDKs, engines, etc. as long as the finished playable runs on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Mac computers.

Will requiring 3rd party APIs, such as SDL, count against the file size of my entry?
Yes, since any additional APIs which must be installed by the player for the game to function should be bundled in your archive.

Are multiplayer games allowed?
All games must include a single-player mode. Multiplayer mode is optional but must not be mandatory.

How many levels must I include in my entry?
The game must include enough content to properly demonstrate gameplay. Usually this can be shown by including at least one complete level.

Can I use game assets not created by myself or my team?
Yes. Games which infringe on the copyright of others or intellectual property (IP) in any form will suffer immediate disqualification.

Do you require the source code (project files) for my entry?
No, although it is encouraged. iDevGames supports educating the Mac game development community; we will host the code of any entrant who decides to release it.

Do you have a Contest logo for my website or playable?
3DU-Logo-HiRez.zip 266kB

Are the prizes transferable to a third-party?
If you already hold a valid Unity Pro or Indie license, you may transfer ownership of your prize. If you do not own a valid Unity Pro or Indie license then your Unity prize is non transferable. The ATI video card prize is transferable.

Are winners responsbile for shipping costs for the ATI video card?
No. Shipping costs will be paid by the sponsor, Over the Edge Entertainment.

Where can I ask more questions?
Use the contact form below to send them directly to iDevGames, or simply create a new post in the Contest message board.
