Good lod heuristic

Hi all,

I'm trying to come up with a good algorithm for lod selection and am having a little trouble working out the finer points. What I'd like to do is send an object's AABB to a camera function and get back a scalar indicating the object's approximate screen-space coverage, taking fov and obviously distance into account. I suspect there's an elegant and compact way to do this, but I haven't figured it out yet. If anyone has coded anything like this, or has any other recommendations regarding lod selection, I'd love to hear about it.

I can't help you specifically, but a good resource I've found for LOD is gamastura. You'll probably have to register first, but here is one article of many they have on LOD.
