Hi all!

How do you promote your new game?

I have a list of websites, blogs (mac, games) and forums (programming, developmnet, game design) and what I do is just send them a review of my game.

There are other things I could make, for instance sending Promo codes.

I would like to know your ideas.
Thanks.

Why don't you share your list to the benefit of all? I have seen such a list online and noticed iDevGames on it. We often get developers who send in press releases or try to post here, without taking the time to read that this is a forum for game developers. That is a kind of shot gun marketing that I really frown upon. Developers, having worked so hard in making their game, often fall flat on the business and marketing side.

If I were to market my game, I might look for 'influetial' gamers. Perhaps look at who is reviewing games and provide them with copies. I don't have an iPhone but it seems to me, being on the outside, that the 'noise ratio' is getting as high as the days of the Atari VCS. Too many 'Adventures of ET' being thrown out on the market.

Switching gears... I'd like to recommend to all developers other avenues to market their game. Consider our postmortems. You get to talk about your game and link to your site. Our SEO is great and it is a quality link to your site -- take advantage of this. Gamers actually read postmortems too. See here for more info:

Consider writing a tutorial based on some aspect of your game. Here too, you are given a chance to talk about your game and some interesting aspect of it. For example, pathing routine. Again, a great source for SEO back to your site.

We also have interviews and they serve as another marketing vehicle for your game and your development studio.

Just today I received an email that mentoned how many referral links we have sent to their site.

Summary: Think outside the box for marketing your games!

p.s. You should have Google Analytics on your site. It is a great way to learn more about your demographics so you can better target your customer.

You can submit them to mochimedia.com and on the game feed on TalkArcades.com. You can also contact arcade portal owners to ask them to add your game. If your game has nice graphics and is fun to play they will certainly add it.

There are some site where you can list your Game. Try to Google them and add your game there. Add yourself to games forums and build your reputation there and then you can discuss about your game there.

The postmortem idea is great, and I'll be taking you up on that once we get our game published Carlos! I was just about to post my list of sites, but I see we've got a way more comprehensive list here!

I agree with thinking outside the box when promoting a game. I have even looked into getting small action figures or statues made of characters in my game and sending them to the big sites to stand out from the crowd. Also, consider offering a site like toucharcade.com an exclusive preview with exclusive assets, as well as letting them play your game via ad hoc distribution before it actually comes out if your game is good enough. They like things like that make you stand out above the rest of the herd.
