3D gaming on the Android

Hi all,

i'm new to this forum, so i apologize if my question sounds noob-ish. My question is also not directly related to the iPhone, so here goes: Why are there more 2D/3D games developed for the iPhone compared to the Android phones? Is it that the Apple iPhone's code is much more superior than the Android? I suspect that's not the case as I just came across this article on Engadget about the new Zii EGG SDK (http://www.zii.com) which runs on the ZMS-05 chip that delivers high-performance 3D OpenGL ES acceleration and can be used on the Android OS. So is it because currently, the G1 phone does not have a power-enough chip to run 3D games on the Android?

I'm puzzled because in this video, the Android runs crazily fast on the Zii EGG than it does on my G1! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZ6It6z05rg

Hmph... I can't say I've seen any discussion about Android on this forum. I'd be interested to hear more though if anyone happens to have any info on this.

The GPU in the iPhone is much faster than the one that the G1 has. Talking with a couple android devs at the local IGDA meetup a while back, I seem to recall them being disappointed that you can really only push a few hundred triangles a frame vs being able to push several thousand on the iPhone.

Also, I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but until recently you couldn't run native code on Android and I don't know that many people that like to write graphics code in Java. It's sort of a PITA to write fast vector math code in Java.
