Cross-platform Game Development Library SDL 1.2.9 Released

Version 1.2.9 of the Simple DirectMedia Layer Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL), a cross-platform game development library, has been released.

The new version adds the following features and bug fixes:

  • Altivec optimized blitters
  • Fixed crash trying to allocate hardware surfaces on MacOS X
  • Dropping a document onto an SDL app passes it as a command line parameter in MacOS X
  • Added support for direct color 8-bpp surfaces
  • Fixed short read problem with SDL_RWFromMem()
  • SDL_OPENGLBLIT is officially obsolete
  • Fixed potential crash in multi-threaded timers
  • SIGTERM and SIGINT handlers are reset when SDL shuts down
  • Added support for Tru64 UNIX 4.X
  • Added support for SDL_VIDEO_X11_NODIRECTCOLOR on OpenGL visuals
  • Improved RISC OS support
  • YUV mmx code should compile with gcc 2.x and 3.x
  • SDL.dll works on Windows 95 again
  • Fixed gcc parse errors in SDL_audio.h on Windows
  • Added support for Visual C++ 2005 (Express Beta 2) to VisualC.zip
  • Numerous improvements to the Atari port
  • Fixed hang on shutdown using framebuffer console on ia64
