OMG Cup 2005 Finalists Announced

Written by Carlos Camacho | Monday, December 19, 2005

iDevGames, in connection with Freeverse Software, launched the OMG (Original Mac Games) Cup 2005 contest on October 18, 2005. The OMG Cup’s challenge is to create fun Mac OS X games with a focus on gameplay. In a successful inaugural year, the contest drew thirty-six developers from around the globe—competing for cash prizes and games from Freeverse Software, pro-level file services from PureStatic, and fame. The public voting phase, which determined the six finalists of the OMG Cup 2005, concluded on December 15. Voters were asked to download (http://www.idevgames.com/contest/downloads) entries and score them between one (1) and ten (10) on the criteria of “gameplay.”

iDevGames is pleased to announce the OMG Cup 2005 Finalists, and they are as follows:

  1. Escort Wing (William Hogben, Stephen Johnson) 8.72
  2. Nball (Matteo Guarnieri) 8.28
  3. MacBornes (Alexandre Colucci) 8.27
  4. Tracktor Beam (Will Thimbleby) 7.88
  5. Pawns (Matt Diamond) 7.86
  6. Pakimono (Joachim Ante, Aras Pranckevicius, Raimund Schumach) 7.81

On behalf of the staff and community of iDevGames, congratulations to the six finalists, and to all entrants of OMG Cup 2005! The six games will now move on to the second voting phase of the contest, which will be conducted by an industry Nominating Committee. The three finalists of the OMG 2005 Cup will be announced on January 12, 2006 at MacWorld 2006 by representatives of Freeverse Software.

Congratulation to all the 6 finalists. Now a little question, how can we see the votes of the other games?

Tracktor Beam shouldn't win. It isn't original, Will could've at least change the name, not to copy the name of the original one. But anyways, congrats Will, and all of you, you have done a great job

Kilofer:
When you say Will shouldn't copy the name of the original one and that it wasn't original at all, did you mean this game?

Kilofer please see my response to your previous accusation here: http://www.idevgames.com/contest/downloads/details.php?file=22

Congratulations to all the winners, I'm very happy to make the finalists. Many good games where left out and it's worth taking the time to check them all out. --Will

Indeed, Kilofer, how hard dould it have been to do a google search for "tracktor beam," where it is the first result? Come on now, no need to make completely blind accusations toward what is arguably the most polished, quality game.

Thanks again, Will--your game is excellent!

from the faq:
"A. Yes, you can enter a game which you worked on previously as long as it hasn’t been shown to the public (i.e., internet, forums, IRC, school, etc.)"

Alright, so according to your interpretation of that rule, they'd also have to exclude MacBornes since it is a remake, as well as Pawns because that takes ideas from an old game called Chess. :P

This obviously isn't the same game he worked on before, its a remake of it so I don't think that rule should apply.
